The Cambridge University Society for Women Lawyers aims to create a supportive and diverse network of women and all persons interested in the legal profession. We provide career advice to aspiring lawyers in Cambridge and work towards gender equality in the sector.
WHAT WE DO
What We Do
Careers Events and Panels
So far this year, we have heard from Latham & Watkins trainees Kate Burrell and Esha Marwaha as well as brand ambassador Hannah Obie as well as our panellists from Linklaters who revealed all about life as an in-house lawyer. We hosted a further virtual event with our sponsors Ashurst, through which we considered the role and position of women in commercial law. Our next big event involves a discussion with Clifford Chance's Dessislava Savova regarding smart contracts and AI in Commercial Law as part of our 2021 theme of Law and Tech, delving into the challenges and possibilities we are faced with in an increasingly technological, legal world.
While the current Covid restrictions have generated difficulties with arranging socials, the society has risen to the challenge with a number of virtual gatherings as alternatives for in person meetings. Our LGBT+ officers arranged a Christmas viewing of "Happiest Season" as well as a viewing of "On the Basis of Sex", detailing the successes and challenges faced by Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Collaborations with other Cambridge Societies
This year, we are thrilled to partner with UN Women Cambridge. Together, we will be working towards achieving United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 in promoting gender equality and furthering the empowerment of women and girls. We aim to contribute to the discussion on gender equality and address specific issues faced by women across different ethnic, class, faith and racial backgrounds.
We were also excited to collaborate with Cambridge University's SU LGBTQ+ Society on our viewing of "Happiest Season".
We are extremely excited to announce our 2021 CUSWL mentorship scheme through which students will be connected to our extensive network of Cambridge alumni and working professionals across the globe in order to develop their professional networks, set concrete career goals and receive tailored advice on achieving their aims.
